WHAT IS NTEP?
The National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) is an evaluation program administered by the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM).Type evaluation is the process whereby weighing and measuring devices are extensively examined to determine if the performance, operating characteristics, features and options of a particular device complies with the applicable requirements of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Handbook 44.

DO I NEED AN NTEP SCALE?
If you will be using the scale in commerce, most states require an NTEP approved scale. The four states that do not require NTEP COC are North Dakota, Texas, Vermont, and Rhode Island.

WHAT DOES LEGAL FOR TRADE MEAN?
Legal for Trade refers to the fact that a scale has passed NTEP evaluation and has received a Certificate of Conformance (COC). Often stated by the manufacturer as "NTEP Approved, Legal for Trade."

WHAT IS NEMA-4X?
NEMA 4X refers to an electrical enclosure rating based on requirements stated by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). A NEMA 4X enclosure is an enclosure constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against corrosion, falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, and hose-directed water; and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.

WHAT IS CALIBRATION?
Calibration is the process of adjusting the components of a scale so that it will accurately indicate zero, and accurately indicate weight in accordance with its capacity.

DO I NEED TO CALIBRATE MY TRINER SCALE?
All Triner scales are factory calibrated before shipment to ensure accurate weighing.

WHEN DOES A SCALE NEED TO BE RECALIBRATED?
Most companies have a calibration policy to comply with their ISO or Quality System Procedures. Triner Scale recommends a yearly calibration to ensure accurate weighing. Recalibration is the user's responsibility.

DO I NEED A FORKLIFT TO RECEIVE MY FLOOR SCALE?
In most instances, yes, a forklift is required. The weighing deck of a typical Triner Scale floor scale ships via common carrier, and is banded onto a shipping pallet designed to be removed from the truck by a forklift.
